After nearly three years together, Liam Payne (27) and his model fiancé Maya Henry (20) have called it quits.

The news was confirmed by Payne on The Diary of A CEO podcast when host Steven Bartlett asked the music artist if he was single, to which he responded, "I am indeed."

"At this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people. That annoys me. I've just been not very good at relationships," he told Bartlett.

According to Capital FM, the former One Direction boy band member and his fiancé reportedly got together shortly after Payne ended things with ex-girlfriend and mother to his four-year-old son, Cheryl Cole, in 2018.

For Payne, realizing that he had an issue was a major turning point in his life and relationship with Henry.

He told Bartlett that a manager for One Direction sought out therapy after the group dispersed – and believed that if a manager needed therapy, he and the other members of the band definitely did, too.

Doing the work

Going to therapy for any reason is about more than just showing up – it's about wanting to do the work.

While Payne admitted to going, he also said he started to regress when he simply didn't want to put in the effort to better himself.

Anyone who's been through mental health struggles can likely relate to Payne's message: You have to want it, or else you'll stand in one spot forever.

Once Payne realized that the problems he and Henry were having derived from his own deeply rooted issues, he knew it wasn't fair to his fiancé. The revelation led him to break off their engagement.

On Bartlett's podcast, Payne said, "I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point. I'm just not very good at them, so I need to work on myself before I put myself onto somebody else. And I feel that's where I got to with my last relationship. I just wasn't giving a good version of me."

While Payne is back on the market, he's not looking for new love any time soon.
