Hugh Jackman mourns the loss of his father on a special day
Melbourne, Australia - Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is mourning the loss of his dad, who passed away on the morning of Australia's Father's Day.
The 52-year-old actor took to his social media on Monday to announce that his father had "peacefully passed away" on Sunday.
Chris Jackman was 84.
"Whilst there is deep sadness, I am filled with such gratitude and love," the Wolverine star wrote. "My Dad was, in a word, extraordinary."
"My Dad has seen everything I've ever done," The Greatest Showman actor said in a past interview – even missing days of work and flying around the world to see movies and shows the Brit normally wouldn't have been a fan of.
From the age of 8, Hugh and his siblings were raised solely by his father in Australia after his mother left to return to the family's native England.
"My father taught me to always keep my promises ... Even if it turns out that there’s a better option or something that will benefit me more," Jackman wrote of his dad in an Instagram post last year.
Condolences poured in from celebrity friends, including Ryan Reynolds, who wrote of Chris, "I was lucky to have met him."
"He devoted his life to his family, his work and his faith," Jackson wrote of his father on Monday. "I pray he is now at peace with God."
