Hugh Jackman gets real about Wolverine's return in Deadpool 3
Los Angeles, California - The third installment of Deadpool is set to hit movie theaters in 2024, and many fans can't wait since actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman announced the return of the iconic X-Men character Wolverine. Now, the Wolverine actor has come forward with some details about the film.
In an episode of The Empire Film Podcast, Jackman revealed that there was real animosity between Deadpool and Wolverine.
"How do I best classify it?" said Jackman. "Ten is really close, zero is reality, we are zero, we are opposites, hate each other."
He said that his character Logan Howlett is so annoyed with the chaotic antihero Deadpool AKA Wade Wilson, played by Reynolds, that he would love to smash his head in.
"[Logan is] annoyed by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head," Jackman said on the podcast. "Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot."
The actor last appeared in front of the camera as Wolverine in the 2017 film Logan, which many fans saw as the end of the X-Men character. That is, until now.
Unlimited possibilities in the Marvel universe
Wolverine and Deadpool are Marvel characters. With films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel fans have seen first-hand that just about anything is possible.
Characters from different movies or universes randomly meet when you least expect them, and even on-screen deaths don't always mean the end of a character's story.
Regarding Deadpool 3, Jackman offered up an interesting take in an interview on The Jess Cagle Show: "[It's] all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines."
"Now we can go back because it's 'science,' and so I don't have to screw with the 'Logan' timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too."
Jackman is currently starring in The Music Man on Broadway through January 15, and getting back in shape for the role as Wolverine on the side hasn't been as easy for the actor this time around, he said.
"I'm doing eight shows a week right now, so I'm only lifting weights three times a week," he said, adding that he wants to be in "better shape than ever."
"But I'll be getting into it once or twice a day as soon as [the Broadway show] is done in a month, and I'll have six months to prep, and I always have the same approach every time I go in," Jackman added.
