Hilary Duff (33) joined Brooke Baldwin as she guest hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show and revealed some intimate details about her third pregnancy.

She said while this pregnancy has been significantly "better" than her previous ones, she has been experiencing pains in an uncomfortable area.

"I texted my midwife the other day and I was like, 'What's up with the stabbing pains in my vagina? I'm not feeling this'," Duff recalled.

Lightning crotch: painful, but harmless

As dramatic as the lightning crotch may sound, it's nothing to be worried about, the actor explained.

"The baby is getting ready for birth, like lowering so you can actually breathe and get a full supply of air in your lungs, which I haven't been able to do for months, but you get stabbing pains," she explained.

Guest host Brooke Baldwin said, "So that's a new concept for you: you can breathe, and you're having a lightning situation down there," to which Hilary responded, "I'm not sure which is better."

A lightning crotch sounds really painful, but it's not dangerous, according to Mary Jane Minkin, MD, a clinical professor at Yale University School of Medicine.

"People can actually experience this substantially before labor," she told Health.

Good news for the soon-to-be mother-of-three, who has an eight-year-old son, Luca, from a previous marriage, and shares a two-year-old daughter, Banks, with husband Matthew Koma.
