Elon Musk teases Twitter's color-coded verification model
San Francisco, California - Elon Musk has revealed new details about Twitter's revamped verified system, which is expected to launch next week.
On Friday, the CEO announced that verified accounts will be given a specific colored check mark, depending on the type of account it is.
"Gold check for companies, [gray] check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates," Musk explained.
"Painful, but necessary," he added.
Since Musk acquired the social media platform for $44 billion back in October, he has struggled to implement a new verification system.
Earlier this month, he unveiled a new subscription service for verified accounts that required users to pay a fee of $8 a month, only to drop the feature after it resulted in a rise in fake accounts.
The billionaire has been actively making sweeping changes to the company since he became CEO, including firing the entire board of directors and laying off nearly half of the work staff.
Elon Musk says users can expect the relaunch of the verified system on December 2.
