Elon Musk responds to trending #RIPJimmyFallon hashtag on Twitter
San Francisco, California - After #RIPJimmyFallon began inexplicably trending on Twitter, Jimmy Fallon asked Elon Musk to remove it. It's safe to say the platform boss was less than helpful.
The hashtag went viral on Tuesday night, despite the Tonight Show host being alive and well.
Fallon attempted to set the record straight when he tweeted Twitter's boss himself, asking: "Elon, can you fix this? #RIPJimmyFallon."
The Tesla CEO eventually responded on Wednesday, with a droll, "Fix what?"
While it's not clear exactly where or how the trend got started, the internet seemed in on the joke, with tons of users sharing silly memes and photos.
Musk has faced a number of issues since he officially acquired Twitter for $44 billion back in October, most of them self-made. From breaking the platform's certification system and having to chase down users impersonating official accounts, to keeping up his trolling persona, advertisers and celebrities have been quitting the service in droves.
So have employees, but many not of their own volition, as Musk has gone on a firing spree that might get even worse this week.
Despite his mounting troubles, Musk is happy to believe that there's no such thing as bad publicity. "Twitter is All the News," he tweeted.
