Elon Musk and his security team sought for questioning over "crazy stalker" incident
San Francisco, California - Authorities are seeking to question Twitter CEO Elon Musk and his security team after he claimed a "crazy stalker" attacked a car with his young son inside.
In a tweet from Musk shared on December 14, he recounted an incident involving someone following one of his cars.
"Last night, car carrying lil X in LA was followed by crazy stalker (thinking it was me), who later blocked car from moving and climbed onto hood," the billionaire explained.
The thread included a brief clip of a masked and hooded man in a car, with a caption from Musk asking if anyone recognized either.
Musk used the incident as justification to suspend specific accounts, including that of a college student named Jack Sweeney who notoriously ran accounts that published publicly available flight data for Musk's private jets.
"Legal action is being taken against Sweeney & organizations who supported harm to my family," Musk also said in the thread.
He also banned several accounts of journalists who wrote about Sweeney, wrongfully accusing them of doxxing his personal information.
Now, authorities are investigating Musk's claims about the car incident, telling CNN that "efforts to contact Mr. Musk and his security team for statements are underway."
Law enforcement share different story than Elon Musk's
On Tuesday, the South Pasadena police shared a different version of the incident, stating that on the evening of December 13 they responded to a call regarding an assault with a vehicle.
Upon arriving at the scene, a man from Connecticut reported that a suspect in a car had pulled up and blocked his vehicle as he was using a phone in a parking lot. The driver exited the vehicle, accused the Connecticut man of following him on the freeway, and then later proceeded to strike him with his vehicle.
"On Thursday, December 15, 2022, South Pasadena Police learned the suspect involved in this case is believed to be a member of Elon Musk's security teams," a news release from the police reportedly states. "Detectives do not believe Mr. Musk was present during the confrontation."
According to The Washington Post, the incident "took place at a gas station 26 miles from Los Angeles International Airport and 23 hours after" Jack Sweeney's @ElonJet account last posted the jet's whereabouts, casting doubt on a link between the two as Musk has adamantly claimed.
Elon Musk is expected to step down as CEO of Twitter, pending as he finds a suitable replacement.
