Demi Lovato thinks this controversial trend is transphobic
Los Angeles, California - Demi Lovato is speaking out against gender reveals with an Instagram post that called out the trend as transphobic.
Demi Lovato shared a post originally made by trans-rights activist Alok Menon that went into great detail about everything that's wrong with gender reveals, and how they just might be transphobic.
In the caption, Lovato thanks Menon for the information he gathered and shared to his page, and his constant efforts to educate the public about all things trans.
The original post by Menon starts off by saying the arguments against gender reveals aren't about being politically correct.
The post says, "It's both insincere and incorrect to pretend that gender reveal parties are not transphobic. You can't have your proverbial pink-blue binary cake and eat it, too."
The post continues, saying "Gender reveals are based on the illusion that genitals=gender and that there are only two options 'boy or girl'".
While Lovato might firmly believe in this idea, many Instagram users were quick to call her out, with some saying she's taken things too far.
Others complained that the singer was getting too woke, with one user commented "Demi Lovato has officially gone senile, This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen".
Another used posed a new idea to swap gender reveals with, saying "Maybe we should start calling it genital reveal parties then? Same concept, new name."
Lovato is no stranger to public backlash for her outspoken nature, especially after she released the Trump diss track Commander in Chief last year.
