Speaking to Glamour, the 28-year-old revealed she has learned to make choices for herself and stressed the importance of autonomy when it comes to her body, her sobriety journey, and her sexuality.

The pop star, who suffered an overdose in 2018 and has long battled an eating disorder, said that ignoring her intuition in the industry was part of the reason for her past struggles.

"I was trying on different identities that felt authentic to me but weren’t me," she explained. "The super-feminine pop star was an identity that sounded like it fit and looked like it fit, so I put it on like it fit."

However, a "one-size-fits-all solution does not work for everybody," the musician continued.

"What I'm encouraging people to do is just make choices for themselves," she went on. "Autonomy, for me, is what changed my life."

Demi ended her much-publicized engagement with Max Ehrich last year, and took it as a "sign" she'd finally be able to explore her sexuality.

"I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn't going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth," she said.

"When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am," Demi said.

"I hooked up with a girl and was like, 'I like this a lot more'"

Demi said she's reached a point where she feels "too queer" to date a cisgender man.

"I hooked up with a girl and was like, 'I like this a lot more,'" she told the magazine. "It felt better. It felt right."

While the superstar said she is "really queer," she added she's waiting for the right moment to publicly label herself.

Her interview comes ahead of Demi's new, four-part documentary series Dancing with the Devil, in which the singer gets candid about her 2018 overdose, revealing in the trailer she is "just going to say it all."
