Dakota Johnson had the perfect response to her dad cutting her off financially
Los Angeles, California - Dakota Johnson's dad turned off the money tap when she decided not to attend college and instead pursue a Hollywood career!
Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson was raised by parents who were no strangers to the limelight.
Her father, Don Johnson (71), snatched roles in blockbusters like Django Unchained and Miami Vice, while her 63-yer-old mother, Melanie Griffith, rose to worldwide fame as the blonde beauty in Working Girl.
You'd assume that the much-praised Hollywood actors would have supported their daughter in her on-screen endeavors too.
But speaking on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Don Johnson revealed a shocking secret.
"We have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll. So, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll," Don explained.
"Toward the end of high school, I went to [Dakota] and I said, 'So, do you want to go visit some colleges?' Or something like that. And she was like, 'Oh, no. I'm not going to college."
"I went, 'OK, you know what that means? You won't be on the payroll anymore'," he continued.
Essentially, when Dakota announced she wouldn't go to college, her father cut her off completely and the then 20-year-old had to stand on her own feet.

Don then asked his eldest daughter how she was going to take care of herself, to which Dakota replied he shouldn't worry too much about it.
And she wasn't wrong: just three weeks later, she landed her first big role in the award-winning film The Social Network – touché!
The rest is "cinema history," as her dad said.
In fact, after her stirring debut in the 2010 movie, her acting career skyrocketed with roles in over 20 films, including her lead in the steamy Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.
The 31-year-old actor has more than once proven to her dad that she can provide for herself. Don explained that she doesn't even call him for acting advice.
"She calls me to say, 'Gosh, I would see you, but I've got three pictures that I'm shooting at the same time," the Knives Out star revealed.
