Justin Timberlake apologized on Friday for moments he "fell short" and "benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism." The statement came one week after the release of the blockbuster documentary Framing Britney Spears saw him come under fire for his past behavior.

Timberlake and Spears first met as children while starring on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club variety show. The two were a couple between 1999 and 2002, when their relationship ended in a traumatic fall-out.

When rumors were going around that the Womanizer singer betrayed Timberlake, he released the now-infamous Cry Me a River music video, in which a Britney lookalike appeared as a cheating ex-girlfriend.

The media industry came to frame Britney as the villain in the relationship, while Timberlake's career soared – largely thanks to Cry Me a River.

"Because of my ignorance, I didn't recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again," the 40-year-old singer wrote, almost two decades later.

His instantly-viral post got praise from fans and fellow celebrities, who rushed to his support.

While his wife, actor Jessica Biel (38), initially remained quiet amid the accusations against her husband, she finally broke the silence on Friday following his post.

Biel left just three words under his apology: "I love you."

The two have been married since 2012 and have two children, five-year-old Silas and one-year-old Phineas.

Many users took a more skeptical view of Timberlake's apology, saying it was more of an acknowledgement and that it was "too little" and "too late."

But it looks like Jessica Biel is supporting her husband Justin Timberlake despite the allegations. In a recent Instagram post dedicated to her husband on his 40th birthday, she once again declared her love.

"There’s no one I have more fun with, have more laughs with, feel more deeply for, and have more history with," she wrote.
