Britney Spears releases startling new video discussing whether she'll ever perform live again
Los Angeles, California - With only days to go before her June 23 conservatorship hearing, Britney Spears took to Instagram to respond to fans' questions, including whether she thinks she'll ever perform live again.
Spears posted a video on Thursday afternoon answering inquiries from fans questions.
"So I hear that you guys have been writing in," she began, which added further fuel to fans' theory that the star does not control her own Instagram account.
She continued to divulge what her favorite business trip was – "A trip to Italy. Donatella Versace, she flew me there to stay in her beautiful villa" – and what her shoe size was.
"Size 7," in case anyone was wondering – which many fans said they were not.
"We didn't ask these questions," a fan wrote. "Answer the real ones!"
But after a jump cut, she did reveal a bombshell that took fans by surprise, and was a huge blow for those dying to see her perform live.
"The question is, 'Am I ready to take the stage again, am I gonna take the stage again, will I ever take the stage again?' I have no idea," Britney said.
"I'm in a transition in my life and I'm enjoying myself," she added. "So. That's it."
The video has garnered 3.5 million views in its first 24 hours. She also posted a seperate photo and two more dancing videos soon afterwards.
Britney has not performed live in the last three years
Britney has not performed live since 2018 as her conservatorship saga has been further drawn out.
The troubled performer suddenly canceled her 2019 Las Vegas residency, which included 32 shows, at Park MGM before it began, announcing "an indefinite work hiatus" and citing the need to be with her ailing father.
Soon after, she took a month off, posting on Instagram in April 2019, "We all need to take a little 'me time.' Fall in love with taking care of yourself, mind, body, spirit." Several outlets reported she had checked into a mental-health facility.
The 39-year-old has been thrown into the spotlight this year after a high-profile documentary, Framing Britney Spears, stoked the #FreeBritney movement and sparked discussions about how the singer has been treated in the public eye.
More documentaries are also on the way, much to Spears' dismay.
Britney's much anticipated next hearing scheduled for this coming Wednesday in Los Angeles and is the next battle in the ongoing legal war over who has control over the artist's personal affairs. She has been fighting in court for years to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed from her financial and personal conservatorship.
Her lawyer, Samuel D Ingham III, said at a November 2020 hearing, "My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father. She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career."
The pop star is scheduled to appear virtually at next week's hearing after Ingham told Judge Brenda Penny in April, "The conservatee has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly."
It will be the first time she has addressed the court since moving to have her father removed from the conservatorship.
