Brendan Fraser reveals why he won't attend the 2023 Golden Globes
Los Angeles, California - Brendan Fraser's highly-praised performance in The Whale may dominate award season in 2023, but the Doom Patrol star revealed that he will be skipping the Golden Globes, even if he's nominated.
For his GQ cover story, the 53-year-old actor made it clear that he won't be attending the annual ceremony in January due to his painful history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
"I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association," he told the outlet, adding, "No, I will not participate."
The history The Mummy star referred to sexual assault allegations against Philip Berk, the former president of the HFPA.
In 2018, Fraser revealed that Berk allegedly groped and assaulted him in 2003 and maintained that speaking out about the attack led to him being blacklisted in Hollywood for years.
In his latest profile, the DC star, who just made an appearance at New York Comic-Con, shared that the HFPA promised to investigate the incident.
Yet, the organization instead came back to him with a proposed joint statement: "Although it was concluded that Mr. Berk inappropriately touched Mr. Fraser, the evidence supports that it was intended to be taken as a joke and not as a sexual advance" – which Fraser claimed he refused to cosign.
"It's because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn't raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that," the Bedazzled star added in told GQ.
Despite the traumatic fallout, Fraser has defied the odds and is making a comeback for the ages!
