Arrested Development star Jessica Walter passes away
New York, New York – Award-winning actor Jessica Walter died in her sleep on Wednesday at the age of 80.
The actress's daughter, Brooke Bowman, confirmed the news in a statement to Deadline, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom Jessica."
Throughout her long career, Walter made was a dazzling success, starring in a diverse array of roles in both film and television.
But it was Walter's masterful and Emmy-nominated performance as Lucille Bluth in the cult TV show Arrested Development that defined her for younger generations.
It wasn't her only turn as a domineering yet hilarious matriarch either. She also gained plaudits for her work as the alcoholic spy Malory Archer, mother to the main character of the FXX series Archer.
In 1975, Walter won an Emmy for her appearance in the lead role of the NBC series Amy Prentiss. She also starred in Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, Play Misty for Me.
Born-and-raised in New York City, Walter never fell out of love with the city, telling the New York Post that she preferred walking everywhere in the city because, "every day is an adventure here."
Walter is survived by her daughter Brooke Bowman and grandson Micah Heymann. Her cause of death is currently unclear.
