Hammer was set to star in Tracy Letts' upcoming play The Minutes in New York, but has since stepped down from the Broadway production.

"I have loved every single second of working on The Minutes with the family I made from Steppenwolf", Variety quoted a statement issued by Hammer.

"But right now I need to focus on myself and my health for the sake of my family. Consequently, I will not be returning to Broadway with the production."

The production team behind The Minutes said: "Armie remains a valued colleague to all of us who have worked with him onstage and offstage on The Minutes. We wish only the best for him and respect his decision."

A 24-year-old woman recently accused the actor of abusing her "mentally, emotionally, and sexually" between 2016 and 2020. There have also been reports of Hammer fantasizing about cannibalism. The actor has repeatedly denied the allegations directly and through a lawyer.

An LAPD investigation is currently ongoing.

The 34-year-old became known for films such as The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name. In 2010, he married the journalist Elizabeth Chambers (38). They announced their divorce in July 2020.
