Alec Baldwin is getting in on the suing action over Rust movie shooting
Los Angeles, California - Actor Alec Baldwin is now suing the team behind the Rust film for negligence over the accidental shooting death of its cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
As Baldwin has been hit with multiple lawsuits and a criminal review after he accidentally shot and killed Hutchins while filming his western in October 2021, now he is firing back.
Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas submitted the lawsuit to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, naming armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, first assistant director David Halls, property master Sarah Zachry, weapons and rounds supplier Seth Kenney and Kenney's company as defendants in the case.
The 64-year-old actor has publically blamed the crew before, while they have filed suits of their own, passing blame to the movie's weapons provider for supplying a miss-marked box of live ammunition.
"This tragedy happened because live bullets were delivered to the set and loaded into the gun, Gutierrez-Reed failed to check the bullets or the gun carefully, Halls failed to check the gun carefully and yet announced the gun was safe before handing it to Baldwin, and Zachry failed to disclose that Gutierrez-Reed had been acting recklessly off set and was a safety risk to those around her," the suit reads.
The suit continues by explaining that Baldwin has "lost numerous job opportunities and associated income" and has "been fired from multiple jobs expressly because of the incident."
"Baldwin seeks to clear his name and hold Cross-Defendants accountable for their misconduct," the suit added.
The star has repeatedly claimed he did not pull the trigger, although an investigation by the FBI found that the gun's trigger had to have been pulled to be discharged.
Baldwin reached an undisclosed settlement with the family of Hutchins in October, and filming for the movie will continue sometime next year.
