Alec Baldwin hit with lawsuit from Halyna Hutchins' family over fatal Rust shooting
Santa Fe, New Mexico - Actor Alec Baldwin was slapped with a lawsuit from the family of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer he fatally shot while filming the movie Rust.
According to the BBC, the suit was filed at the Los Angeles County Superior Court by Hutchins' mother, father, and sister, and it alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence.
Baldwin (64) was charged with involuntary manslaughter last month for Hutchins' (42) death.
The cinematographer died from a gun shot wound to the chest that was fired from what was meant to be a prop gun held by Baldwin during a rehearsal at Bonanza Creek Ranch in October 2021.
The family's attorney Gloria Allred said they are still "devastated by the shocking killing" and feel that "anyone who is responsible for her loss must be held accountable."
Hutchins' husband filed a separate lawsuit against Baldwin and others for "reckless behavior and cost-cutting" in February of last year, which was settled in October for an undisclosed amount.
The new suit seeks "accountability and justice" for the victim's husband, son, parents, and sister.
Baldwin has continued to plead his innocence, claiming he never actually pulled the trigger on the gun. In August, an FBI investigation concluded that the gun could not have been fired "without the pull of a trigger."
Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed both still face involuntary manslaughter charges, which could land them up to 18 months in prison if found guilty.
