However, according to Adele, that wasn't her idea of what a marriage and family initially looked like.

"I've been obsessed with the nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one. In all these movies and all these books, when you grow up reading them, that's what it should be. I just, from a very young age, promised myself that when I had kids, that we'd stay together. We would be that united family. And I tried for a really, really long time," Adele shared.

The pop star continued that she was "disappointed for her son" and for herself, but realized she was no longer happy after a conversation with friends.

"We were all answering these questions in this very bougie magazine, and it was something like, 'What's something that no one would ever know about you?' And I just said it in front of three of my friends, I was like, 'I'm really not happy. I'm not living, I'm just plodding along,'" Adele explained.

Despite the heartbreaking split, the Easy on Me singer has found love again with sports agent, Rich Paul.

The pair began dating this year and she said of her new beau, "He's just hilarious. Oh, he's so funny, he's hilarious, yeah. And very smart. You know, he's very, very smart. It's quite incredible watching him do what he does."

She added that the romance has been very smooth and easy.

"It's just timing. But it'd be interesting to see what my reaction is like in general to anything that hurts me now that I feel so secure in myself, and I'm talking outside of romance as well," the 33-year-old Grammy winner revealed.

However, she also gave credit to her ex-husband, whom she remains friendly with. He still lives across the street from her and brings "stability" to her life.

"I think Simon probably saved my life, to be honest. He came at such a moment, whereas the stability that him and Angelo have given me, no one else would ever have been able to give me, like, especially at the time in my life. I was so young and I just think I got a bit lost in all of it."
