The pop star passed away on November 5 in Lancaster, California, when his housekeeper found him in the bathtub. Now, more details have been revealed in the aftermath.

As Carter's death certificate shows, the body of the singer has already been cremated at the request of his family, TMZ reported.

His final resting place has not yet been determined, but in the meantime, his ashes will be held by his twin sister Angel.

His official cause of death has not been named since his autopsy a week ago, and a toxicology investigation could drag on for months.

The singer was known to have struggled with substance abuse, and law enforcement is said to have found cans of compressed air in Carter's bathroom and bedroom, as well as prescription drugs.

It was also reported by TMZ that the day before he died, police came to his house to do a welfare check on him. It's unclear why they were called. When his housekeeper answered, Carter turned them away.

She again went to check on Carter the next morning when she found his dog "going crazy," and then Aaron in the bathtub. His body allegedly "smelled of decomposition."

A memoir Carter was working on, titled Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life, was fast-tracked and set to drop on Tuesday. Yet, after public backlash, its publisher announced the book's release will be halted for the time being "out of respect for the Carter family."

"Mr. Carter was not just a celebrity, but he was also a father, a brother, a son, and a friend to many who are still grieving for him," they said.

Carter is survived by his fiancée Melanie Martin, and his son Prince, who turns one at the end of November.

To regain custody of his child, Carter had filed for a restraining order against Martin in February 2022. The couple had a toxic on-and-off relationship, and their son was apparently removed from their homes by authorities nearly a year ago. The infant is said to have been living with Martin's mother since.

Carter's older brother Nick of the Backstreet Boys, who paid tribute to the late star onstage after his passing, said "addiction and mental illness" are to blame for his death.
