Aaron Carter: Court rules on custody of late star's one-year-old son
Los Angeles, California - Aaron Carter's fiancée, Melanie Martin, has regained custody of their one-year-old son, Prince, one month after the star's tragic death.
In September, the on-again, off-again couple had lost custody of Prince over concerns related to drug use and domestic violence. Their son was then placed under the care of Martin's mother.
Carter entered rehab in September in the hopes of regaining custody of Prince, but he tragically passed away on November 5 at the age of 34.
On Thursday, Martin was awarded full custody of Prince by a court in Los Angeles. The 30-year-old model was in New York at the time of the ruling but is now traveling to California to reunite with her son.
"I'm honoring Aaron today, and I know he would be so proud of me," Martin said, per TMZ. "I'm very emotional thinking we could have been a family, but Aaron would be so happy knowing I got him back."
Carter's mother, who has not yet met her grandson, also shared her gratitude for the ruling, telling the outlet: "The child should be with the mother."
Martin celebrated Prince's first birthday on November 22 with a sweet tribute on Instagram, writing, "Today is going to be a tough one for me but I know your daddy is playing birthday songs for you up in heaven."
