Louisiana nurse breaks down in tears over the young un-vaxed people dying in her care
Shreveport, Louisiana - A Louisiana nurse shares a heartbreaking video after a day of treating unvaccinated Covid-19 patients who are fighting the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
The clip appeared on ABC News' Twitter and Facebook pages this week. In it, Felicia Croft, who works as a Covid-19 intensive care nurse at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport, recounts her bitter experience.
"The Delta wave that we're seeing now, people are younger and sicker," Croft says in the video, adding, "We are intubating and losing people that are my age and younger."
The nurse also says in the clip that many of the people she has dealt with have not been vaccinated, and the thought of there being something that could have saved her unvaccinated patients is incredibly upsetting to her.
Meanwhile, the nurse makes no secret of the fact that fully vaccinated people also end up at her clinic, but their cases tend to be less severe.
"They usually go home to raise their kids and hug their husband or wife," Croft says in the clip.
"I can't explain the feeling of defeat when you do everything, you pour everything into a patient and it's not enough - and then to know that they could have gotten vaccinated and it could have made a difference," Croft says at another point.
The state of Louisiana is currently seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases as the Delta variant spreads across the US.
"The Delta variant is Covid on steroids. This virus is far more infectious than the Covid we were dealing with a year ago," Director of the San Francisco Department of Public Health Dr. Grant Colfax told KPIX 5 San Fransisco.
Dr. Colfax's recommendation: get vaccinated as soon as possible!
