Tiger breaks loose near Ukrainian border
Strychava, Ukraine - The police have issued a special warning after a tiger escaped from a private zoo. The animal is now on the loose on the border between Ukraine and Slovakia.
The tiger escaped from a private breeder in the Ukrainian town of Strychava over the weekend, euronews.com reported.
The town is located in the western part of the country, right on the border with Slovakia. The predatory cat reportedly made its way to the border area between the two neighboring countries.
The Poloniny National Park issued a warning on its official Facebook page on Sunday, saying the tiger has been seen in the area around the Slovakian villages of Brezovec, Klenová, and Ulič.
"When moving in the park, it is necessary stay cautious and at the same time avoid spreading panic," park officials wrote.
They also said they planned to capture the escaped tiger and transfer it to a suitable facility.
The municipality of Ulič also shared a special announcement on its Facebook page: "We ask you to be vigilant and limit movement outside your homes. If you see the animal, call the police or the mayor of the village."
Escaped tiger moved to Ukrainian border due to Russian invasion
Slovakian police also posted a Facebook warning, saying they had notified all village mayors, police patrols, border control offices, and representatives of hunting associations in the area.
Speaking to a Slovakian news agency, Miroslav Bural, the director of Poloniny National Park, explained that the tiger had originally lived in a zoo in eastern Ukraine. The big cat had to be transported west due to the Russian invasion.
