Snake on a plane sends passengers into panic mode at Newark Airport
Newark, New Jersey - A snake caused quite a stir on an airplane as it landed at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday.
It was a true moment of art imitating life in the "Snakes On A Plane" moment, when a United Airlines flight coming from Tampa Bay, Florida, was stopped in its tracks on the runway at its Newark destination.
Alarmed passengers spotted the critter slithering about the cabin.
According to News 12 New Jersey, a passenger claimed that "passengers in business class started shrieking and pulling their feet up," sending everyone into panic mode as the flight began taxiing.
Port Authority police were immediately notified by the flight's crew and removed the reptile when the plane reached the gate.
The chaos-causing creator turned out to be a nonvenomous garter snake, commonly known as a garden snake.
According to the National Park Service, the animals typically grow to be 20-30 inches long and tend to feed on insects.
Authorities searched the entire Boeing 737 plane after the incident, but did not find any more critters on board.
Fortunately, no one was harmed during the incident, but it is still a mystery as to how the snake got on the plane in the first place.
This is not the first incident in recent months of a snake find its way onboard. In July, a flight attendant reported finding a snake head in his airplane food.
