Scuba diver attacked by "goofy" fish with human-like teeth!
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - An Alabama man found out exactly how the triggerfish got its name as he swam a little too close to the aggressive animal's territory while scuba diving in the Red Sea.
This wasn't Alex Pikul first underwater adventure. The 31-year-old café owner has scuba dived all over the world – but this last dive left a mark, both physically and mentally.
Pikul was enjoying the pristine waters at the popular Egyptian seaside resort Sharm El Sheikh on the Red Sea.
Per the New York Post, he was admiring the colorful corals when he got pushed off course by a current and into a triggerfish's territory.
The fish, described by Pikul as "goofy" and "ugly-looking," saw the diver as a threat and attacked with its oddly human-like chompers.
Trigger fish attack caught on camera!
Triggerfish are notoriously aggressive
Pikul said the fish bite, "startled [him] and it certainly hurt but it didn’t break skin or anything, so it wasn’t dangerous."
Other divers on the excursion caught the attack on camera and shared it to Instagram, where it took off as users were left fascinated by the weird fish.
When Alex saw the clip, he thought it was hysterical. He said, "I’ve seen triggerfish before, but when I saw the video of it coming back, I thought it was hilarious." What really surprised him were the fish's teeth and general goofy. He said it looked like it was wearing dentures and had "a face only a mother could love."
"Triggerfish are very territorial. The fish was just doing what it was supposed to do and being defensive of its kids."
Despite the scary moment, Alex said it was the best dive of the entire vacation.
