Missing tiger that terrified Houston neighborhood is finally found
Houston, Texas - Police have finally located the tiger that alarmed a Houston neighborhood last week and then disappeared along with its owner.
The search for the missing tiger began last Sunday after an off-duty sheriff's deputy spotted the animal outdoors in his neighborhood. The confrontation ended with the tiger's 26-year-old driving away with it, according to the officer.
The man was later arrested, having already been out on bond for a murder charge. There was still no trace of the 175 pound, nine-month-old male tiger named India.
Houston Police Commander Ron Borza said authorities had received a tip-off from the public on Saturday that the owner's wife wanted to hand over the tiger. He did not disclose where exactly the animal had been for the past few days.
Reports to police indicated that the tiger had been moved about eight times through the city throughout the week, according to CNN.
"In no way shape or form should you have an animal like that in your household," Borza said. "That animal can get to 600 pounds. It still had his claws, and it could do a lot of damage if he decided to."
India has been successfully relocated to the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, an animal sanctuary part of the Humane Society of the United States in Murchison, Texas.
Borza stressed that it's illegal to house a tiger within Houston city limits.
