On the online platform, he shared a photo of his backyard and wrote: "Feeling sorry for a bird that's obviously been injured by a cat, just sitting there on the lawn all morning, unable to escape."

However, everything was not as it seemed.

After Wils_152 looked out of his window again about four hours later, he noticed the animal still lingered on his lawn – apparently unable to move.

Concerned over the bird's fate, he went outside to check on the poor little guy, only to realize that he might need to get his eyes checked.

As it turned out, he had not been looking at a bird at all, but rather a leaf!

The mistake is understandable: in the picture the user shared, the brown leaf really does resemble a little birdie.

The post has already been upvoted more than 1,300 times, with many having a laugh at the hilarious story.

"In your defence that's a convincing leaf bird if you squint, 10+ feet away and with 4 pints of ale in your system," one user commented, to which Wils_152 replied: "The missus spotted it was a leaf straight away so maybe I'm just a silly f*****."

"At least you know it's okay," another user wrote, trying to console him.
