Hentagon: Unattended chicken found pecking around Defense Department

Arlington County, Virginia - Chickens are the last thing you'd expect to be poking around the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, but that's exactly what employees found early Monday morning, according to AP News.

A local animal organization picked up a chicken clucking around the Pentagon. It's unclear where exactly she was found or how she got there.

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington, who took the hen into custody, joked on Facebook, that they finally had an answer to the age-old question. "Apparently, the answer to 'why did the chicken cross the road' is.... to get to the Pentagon?!"

The bird's destination is clear, but other questions remain. Where exactly in the Pentagon did the chicken go? What was it doing there? Was it on a mission of some sort?

Chelsea Jones, spokesperson for the animal organization, told the AP that they were not allowed to disclose exactly where they found the hen. The only thing they can say is that the brown bird, described as nervous and sweet, was found at a security checkpoint.

We may not get any more details on the avian intruder's backstory, but we know the chicken won't be hanging around the Pentagon anymore.

She has a new home with an Animal Welfare League of Arlington employee who has a farm in Western Virginia. And now she's also got a name.

The organization dubbed her Henny Penny, after the folk story in which a chicken runs around crying, "the sky is falling."

It's hard to know if the brown hen likes her new name or home, but she appears to like the song Jimmy Fallon wrote and performed about her on The Tonight Show.

The group posted a Facebook video of her reacting to Jimmy's question: "Were you on a mission or are you just finger lick'n good."
