Heartbroken animal rescuers find something shocking in garbage can
Wichita, Kansas - This story is really not for the faint of heart.
February 16 is a day that staff from the animal welfare organization Beauties and Beasts won't be forgetting anytime soon. That's when they found that a puppy – less than a year old – in a trashcan.
The female dog had been tied to a metal chain in front of a house and was simply left outside in frigid weather. She didn't survive the cold.
When she froze to death, her body was discarded in the trash bin and covered with garbage. "The image of her as the bag was opened will haunt us, forever," the organization wrote in an emotional Facebook post.
They continued to explain what caused the puppy's death: "She was starving with zero body fat and died from hypothermia."
The animal welfare organization even gave the departed dog a name: "We have named her Viola, meaning winter flower for the beautiful Angel that blossomed from a tragic and preventable death."

The organization wasn't just trying to make Facebook users cry, they were trying to get people to support stricter tethering laws in Kansas, which they hope will prevent more heartbreaking deaths like this one.
They continued, "We will continue to fight for stronger laws to protect the innocent before it’s to late. Repeat tether violations need severe consequences, sadly the innocent are paying with their lives."
