Goldmations: The sweet and spirited mix of Golden retrievers and Dalmatians

When Golden retrievers and Dalmatians make puppies, you get the best of both worlds: Goldmations!

The name Goldmation might make you think that this crossbreed would boast a shiny yellow coat with some adorable spots.

But that's not really the case: the coat coloring tends to come from their Dalmatian parents. It's usually spotted and mostly black and white. But their coats can take on more of a Golden retriever like length and can be longer, silky, and even fluffy.

Physically, the dogs are medium-sized, like their parents, and are very strong and muscular.

That said, when these two purebreds make puppies, their looks really do vary. Some doggos have larger heads and snouts more like retrievers, others are more pointed like Dalmatians.

A quick look on Instagram shows a bunch of different Goldmation variations, all equally adorable.

Goldmations are great family dogs

While they may not have golden coats, Goldmations' personalities are definitely precious.

According to PetGuide.com, this is the perfect family dog because it has the sweet, gentle nature of the Golden retriever and the spirited, playful side of the Dalmatian.

This kind of pooch isn't just part of the pack, they see themselves as a very important part of the family. They are social and want to be involved in everything, regardless if it's a dinner with friends or a strenuous hike.

The flip side is that they hate to be alone and can even develop separation anxiety. Left to their own devices, they may busy themselves by destroying the house or digging massive holes. It's the Dalmatian in them, requiring a lot of stimulation.

Like its parents, the Goldmation gets along well with kids and other animals, so as long as you're ready for constant activity, this might be the breed for you.
