French study shows dogs detect Covid-19 faster than any test!
Paris, France - Dogs more accurately detect Covid-19 in people than some tests do, according to a study conducted in France.
Trials run in March and April by the national veterinary school of France as well a research team from Paris's Necker-Chochin hospital have shown conclusively that dogs are better than most tests at detecting the presence of Covid-19 in humans.
According to The Guardian, the dogs were able to detect the presence of the virus with an astounding 97% accuracy, and correctly identified negative samples 91% of the time.
Polymerase chain reaction tests (PCR), are the gold standard for Covid-19 testing now, far surpassing the results provided by fast lateral flow tests (LFT's). The dogs' noses left the LFT's in the dust.
"These are excellent results, comparable with those of a PCR test," according to Professor Jean-Marc Tréluyer. He indicated that the dogs could be used in public settings such as concerts or airports to figure out who should have a full viral test carried out.
The dogs are able to turn a result faster than any test available.
