Dog stands guard for a month and looks for somebody to love
Deerfield Beach, Florida - This dog's story is bound to pull on your heartstrings: A loyal pooch spent months waiting for his family to return, but they'd moved on without him. Now, the pup looking for a new place to call home.
A neighborhood house had been emptied and boarded up for over a month, but every day animal shelter worker Gloria Cabal drove by the property, she saw the same dog outside.
It was as if he was standing guard and waiting his owner's return.
But the house was foreclosed, as the Dodo reported, and the family wasn't coming back. The poor pooch named Salvatore had been left behind.
The dog's sweet loyalty moved the Everglades Angels Dog Rescue worker. She did all she could to lure him from his watch, bringing food, water, treats, and toys – but Salvatore didn't leave the lawn.
Denise Guevara of Everglades Angels told the Dodo, "He was very protective of his yard. He basically was guarding his property, but not, you know, aggressively or ferociously."
The dog is hoping for a new family and home to love
The brown and black mutt refused to abandon his post until he was chased into a nearby park by a real estate agent.
Only then was the protective pooch ready to jump ship.
Cabal brought Salvatore to the Everglades Angels Dog Rescue shelter, where he was welcomed and quickly became part of the shelter family.
"He is a volunteer favorite," Guevara said of the 66 pound bundle of love. Volunteers estimate he is between five and six years old.
Per the animal shelter's Facebook, Salvatore is still looking for a new forever home. Hopefully this guard dog will find a new family to love and protect.
