Last month, pet owner Gamaliel Santos Yañez's TikTok video went viral after his larger dog Thayson was seen biting through a leash in Mexico to attempt to free his smaller puppy friend.

As the smaller dog Boby patiently sits on the ground, Thayson determinedly chews through the leash. The video then cuts to the two running and escaping together.

The scene stirred up emotions from many TikTokers, with some wishing the animals good luck on their newfound freedom and many assuming the two were running from a neglectful home.

More than 5 million people have viewed the clip. But what was really going is quite the surprise.

Yañez recently revealed the amusing reason for the dog's behavior, and it's much more light-hearted than users imagined.

The dogs were just trying to escape bathtime!

"My girlfriend was just about to give Boby a bath," Yañez told The Dodo. "The only time they’re on a leash is when we walk them or when we give them a bath. We use it so they don’t run and get dirty."

So Thayson had really just wanted to free his little friend from their dreaded bathtime - and have his best playmate to himself.

"They spend all their time together," Yañez said. "They are very good friends."

Still, Thayson's determination and ability to bite through the leash was quite the feat.

"I was pretty amazed," the pet owner said. "After that, they went and played. They were very happy to be back together playing."

Boby didn't end up getting his bath that day, but he certainly got plenty of love from his best friend – and millions of fans on TikTok.
