"He heard the cry and immediately recognized it was a baby sloth," his colleague Noelia told The Dodo.

"He saw the mom on the tree, but she was climbing back to the top. We believe the baby fell from his mom and he cried to attract her, but because of the noise at the beach, she probably didn't hear him."

Noelia's colleague decided to take the animal with him to work and have it examined by a veterinarian. After ensuring the baby sloth hadn't been injured by the fall, staff gave him some fluids and space to rest.

Meanwhile, the animal experts discussed how to reunite the little creature with its mother and soon had an idea!

No sooner had the baby awakened from its sleep than it began to cry – and rescuers took advantage of the opportunity.

They recorded the baby's sounds and made their way back to the beach with a loudspeaker.

Rescuers turned on the speakers and waited for the adult sloth to take notice.

Sure enough, they soon spotted the animal climbing slowly towards them. Then one of the employees held out the baby.

Finally, after about two hours, rescuers had handed the baby back into its mother's arms!

She immediately reached out for her child, pulled it tightly to her chest, and gently nuzzled her head against the little ball of fur.

"When she grabbed him, we [could] tell she missed her baby so much and was grateful to have him back," Noelia said, touched.

"It was an emotional moment for all of us, and we hope this mom and baby stay safe. It melts our hearts every time we can witness the reunion of a mom and her baby."
